Frequently Asked Questions

ECP (External Counter Pulsation) is a non-surgical, FDA-cleared therapy process that can enhance blood flow.

During Renew ECP Therapy, a technician wraps inflatable cuffs (similar to blood pressure cuffs) around your calves, thighs and hips. The cuffs are timed to inflate and deflate between heartbeats. This external counterpulsation process helps more oxygenated blood travel to and from the heart muscle more quickly, significantly enhancing blood flow, thereby reducing angina and related symptoms.

ECP treatment is non-surgical, requires no hospitalization, and does not limit your other patient activities.

Please see Contraindications and Precautions. In general, most people tolerate ECP treatment with no major discomfort.

Patients with chronic stable angina have responded well to ECP therapy and often experience1:

  • A reduction in symptoms: shortness of breath, dizziness, fatigue, weakness, pain or pressure in chest, back, neck, jaw, shoulders, or arms — providing an overall improvement to quality of life
  • An increase in energy and exercise tolerance
  • Results that can last for years
